1. How does HostGator work?

Hostgator is a Web Hosting company. This means they’ll rent server space and computing power that allows you to host your website. You purchase a web hosting package with them. Once you’ve purchase a web hosting package, you’ll get access to your cPanel. From there, you can add domain names, install
a content management system (CMS) on your domain names, set up e-mail, etc. You’ll build your website using the CMS of your choice.

2. Are there any current coupon codes for HostGator?

3. Does Hostgator offer email?

Yes! You can add email accounts using cPanel. Here are my video instructions: Set up an email address using HostGator hosting.

4. Does HostGator offer SSL certificates?

5. Does hostgator take PayPal?

Yes, you can pay with PayPal at Hostgator. I use it as a payment method myself. It’s also possible to set up a recurring payments in Paypal, so you don’t have to pay for each month, or year, seperately.

6. Hostgator says “invalid coupon, have you tried SNAPPY”, now what?

They’re suggesting you use the coupon code ‘SNAPPY’, which means you’ll get only 20% off. However, this isn’t the best deal you can get! 7. Do I need any of the additional services?

8. What is Constant Contact?

Constant contact is an online marketing company, that has partnered with HostGator. Their main service is Email Marketing. This services is additional, and not necessary to build a website on their hosting platform.

9. Does Hostgator offer a money-back guarantee?

Yes, Hostgator offers a 45-day money-back guarantee or refund. For more information, see this page on Hostgator.com.

10. Is HostGator email reliable?

In my experience, so far, yes; I haven’t had any problems. If your business heavily depends email however, I’d recommend to not rely on shared hosting for your email. Look into their VPS or dedicated servers.

11. Does HostGator register domain names?

Yes, you can register your domain names at Hostgator here, or register a domain name when signing up for a hosting package. However, I recommend using Namecheap to register your domain names; they’re a lot cheaper, and also provide excellent service. 12. Does Hostgator offer Domain Privacy Protection?

Yes. However, I recommend getting your domains from Namecheap.com, as the domain names registered there are cheaper, and the domain name privacy service is cheaper too. For the breakdown of the costs, read cheapest way to get a domain name and hosting.

13. Does hostgator support WordPress?

Absolutely. Just recently, they’ve actually added WordPress optimized hosting, to make hosting WordPress websites using their webhosting easier and more efficient.

14. Does hostgator have a website builder?

There are multiple ways to build a website at Hostgator, and today, it’s easier than ever to build a website. You first go through buying a package, then you get access to cPanel. From there on out, you can install any of the following Content Management Systems to build your website:

  • WordPress
  • Drupal
  • Joomla
  • Magento
  • Concrete 5
  • Weebly (for drag and drop website building)

15. Does Hostgator offer SiteBuilder?

If you mean Parallels Plesk Sitebuilder, then yes. However, this is only available with their Reseller, VPS and Linux dedicated hosting packages. You can find more information here.

16. Does hostgator provide squeeze pages?

Not as a 1-click install, but you can make squeeze pages using WordPress and other content management systems. Hostgator provides installation of all the popular content management systems, so you can definitely make squeeze pages with their hosting service.

17. Where can I find the link to login to cPanel?

When registering, you’ll receive an email with a link to your cPanel. If you already have a website hosted, the easiest way to get to your cPanel is by entering: yourwebsite.com/cpanel.

18. How do I access my HostGator webmail?

You can access your webmail through cPanel, or directly by going to yourwebsite.com/webmail.

19. Which Linux version does HostGator use?

On their shared hosting: CentOS Linux x86, identical to Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Their dedicated hosting package comes with Linux CentOS 5, or Server 2012 R2. You can find the details here.

20. Does hostgator support ASP.net?

Yes. This means you have to purchase a Windows Hosting package. You can get one here: hostgator.com/windows-hosting.

21. How do I install WordPress on Hostgator?

22. How to set up a 301 redirect using Hostgator?

23. Does HostGator email use IMAP or POP3?

There are options for using both!

24. Does HostGator allow for Gzip compression?

25. How do I move a WordPress site to Hostgator?

My preferred method is to use a plugin like WP Clone, which makes this process easy.  If you’re using WP Clone, these are the steps to follow:

  1. First, you make a backup of your WordPress website on your old hosting account using WP Clone (video instructions (from 0:00 to 1:30)). Download your backup from the link.
  2. Upload your backup on an online location. Use another live website or an online service.
  3. Change the DNS settings to your new Hostgator hosting account, and add the domain to your new Hosting account (video instruction showing how to change DNS settings in Namecheap, and video istructions on adding a domain to Hostgator using cPanel)
  4. Install WordPress using QuickInstall (video instructions)
  5. Install WP Clone, and upload your backup to your site by providing the download link to your backup. (video instructions (starting at 1:42 to 0.00)).

About the company

26. Does HostGator use American phone support?

Yes. You can find all of their contact details here: www.hostgator.com/contact. They’re located in Houston Texas and Austin Texas, and they haven’t outsourced their phone support to an offshore company.

27. Are Hostgator and BlueHost the same company?

No. However, both of these webhosting companies are owned by EIG (Endurance International Group). Here is a page that shows all of the companies owned by EIG http://www.endurance.com/our-company/our-brands. Other web hosting companies currently owned by EIG, at the time of writing, are iPage, FatCow, Domain.com, iPower, A Small Orange, Typepad (blogging), StartLogic, Homestead.com, and BigRock.
